West Ham international stars Rice, Ajeti and Yarmolenko win but Fabianski struggles

West Ham had three players involved in international action across the weekend emerge victorious for their respective countries but for the others it was a weekend of frustration.

Declan Rice started for England in their 4-0 win over Bulgaria at Wembley to keep up their 100 per cent record in Euro 2020 Group A qualifying.

Spurs frontman Harry Kane bagged a hat trick for the hosts and Raheem Sterling added a strike of his own in the comfortable victory in north London.

On the continent, summer recruit Albian Ajeti started for Switzerland as they thumped Gibraltar 4-0 at the Stade Tourbillon. The home side were 3-0 up by half time in the cruise over the minnows of Group D.

Switzerland suit fourth in the group having played a game less than the other four teams in the group.

Andriy Yarmolenko was also in action for Ukraine as they beat Lithuania in Group B in what was Yarmolenko's first international outing in nearly a year having made a successful return from an Achilles injury last October.

Ukraine were 3-0 winners and sit atop Group B with 13 points though that have played two games more than reigning European champions Portugal.

It wasn't such a good weekend for Lukasz Fabianski however as he was in goal for Poland's surprising defeat to Slovenia in Group G as they were downed 2-0. They face Austria - and former striker Marko Arnautovic - on Monday night.

Robert Snodgrass was an unused substitute in Scotland's 2-1 defeat at home to Russia. Manuel Lanzini also didn't make it off the bench as Argentina drew 0-0 with Chile in Los Angeles.

In age group football, Conor Coventry starred for the Republic of Ireland U21s as they saw off Armenia 1-0 in Group A of the Euro 2021 U21 Championship qualifiers.

Grady Diangana and Nathan Trott didn't feature for the England U21s in their victory over Turkey on Friday night. Youngster Ajibola Alese started for the U19s as they beat Turkey 3-1.
