West Ham will assess Marko Arnautovic on Monday after he hobbled off the pitch in the final moments of the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
The Hammers finished the match with 10 men after Arnautovic left the field with Manuel Pellegrini unable to call upon a replacement having used all three substitutes.
The Austria international had attempted to continue for a few minutes before eventually heading off the pitch and down the tunnel in the 89th minute.
Meanwhile, Andy Carroll returned to the matchday squad on Saturday for the first time this season but failed to make it off the bench.
Carroll has not featured in a Premier League match since the 2-0 victory over Leicester at the King Power Stadium in May, but his return is a boost for Pellegrini ahead of a crucial run of fixtures in the build-up to Christmas.
Jack Wilshere was left out altogether on Saturday, but is pushing for a place in the squad to face Newcastle at St. James' Park. The former Arsenal man is recovering from an ankle problem and trained with the squad last week.
Summer signing Ryan Fredericks has been dealt a blow, out until 2019 after sustaining a fibula injury in the 1-1 draw against Huddersfield, while Winston Reid, Manuel Lanzini, Carlos Sanchez and Andriy Yarmolenko all remain on the long-term absentees list.
