West Ham injury news: Jack Wilshere to miss Fulham clash as he continues ankle recovery

Manuel Pellegrini has revealed he is again unable to call on Jack Wilshere as the West Ham midfielder continues his recovery from an ankle problem.

Wilshere, 26, was initially ruled out for six weeks in September following surgery on his ankle after a screw from a previous injury had come loose and caused pain.

The former Arsenal man, who has made just five appearances since his free transfer across London in the summer, played five minutes off the bench against Newcastle earlier this month, but missed out against both Cardiff and Crystal Palace.

West Ham face another London derby this weekend when they travel to Fulham on Saturday, but Wilshere will not be there.

"Jack continues his treatment with his ankle and he will not be involved in this game," Pellegrini said.

"Lucas Perez has a pain in his instep, we are reviewing it, tomorrow we will know exactly which of the players can be in the squad."

One man who has made a more successful return from injury is striker Andy Carroll. The No9 had featured in an international break friendly against Brentford before putting in a good showing against Palace from the bench, replacing Perez at the break.

"Yes of course he played the friendly against Brentford, then he played 45 minutes [against Crystal Palace] and got the foul for the second goal, he made a lot of good work for our team so we'll see what happens this week," said Pellegrini

"Not only for competition for places but also because we don't have too many players, we cannot play with the same players in all the games so every player that recovers, especially important players like Jack, like Andy, as you said of course for us it's very important."
