West Ham hopeful over Angelo Ogbonna injury ahead of Sheffield United trip

West Ham are hopeful that defender Angelo Ogbonna could be available for their trip to Sheffield United next weekend despite suffering a groin injury in the win over Fulham.

The Italian was forced off at the London Stadium last weekend after a collision with Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Ogbonna underwent a scan on Sunday and, while he is yet to return to full training, there is optimism that, thanks to the international break, the 32-year-old will not be ruled out of any Premier League games.

David Moyes takes his side to bottom of the League Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon next week, and will be keen to have Ogbonna available after his stellar performances this season.

Since the Premier League's restart last season, Ogbonna has been crucial to an impressive defensive record for the Hammers, giving Moyes's side far more stability at the back - a huge factor in their impressive start to the season.

Meanwhile, midfielder Manuel Lanzini has won the Premier League goal of the month for his last minute wonder-strike to steal a point from London rivals Tottenham. The Argentine scored a late screamer to complete West Ham's stunning eight-minute comeback from three goals down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
