West Ham hope to wrap up a late deal for Basel forward Albian Ajeti.

The Hammers have been in talks over the 22-year-old Switzerland international and were today working to finalise a move before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

Basel are thought to be holding out for more than £10million for Ajeti but West Ham hope an agreement can be reached to make the striker their sixth summer signing.

Ajeti scored 15 goals in 35 games for Basel last season and has seven caps for Switzerland. He was a substitute when they lost 1-0 to England in a friendly at Wembley last September.

Basel face LASK in a Champions League qualifier tonight but Ajeti has a minor injury and is not expected to be involved as he finalises a move to the London Stadium.

Meanwhile, West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was having his groin injury assessed today with concerns growing he could miss their opening game against Manchester City.

The Hammers remain hopeful Fabianski will be fit for the new season but he faces a race to return in time for the lunchtime kick-off at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Fabianski injured his groin in the warm-up before a pre-season friendly against Hertha Berlin last Thursday. Manuel Pellegrini said at the weekend he hoped the 34-year-old Pole would be fit to face but he was still being assessed today.

If Fabianski does not recover in time, Spanish goalkeeper Roberto will start this weekend. The 33-year-old joined West Ham on a free transfer from Espanyol this summer.
