West Ham headlines as Mario Gotze receives transfer advice and Man United stance on Declan Rice

Here are your West Ham United headlines for Tuesday, June 2.

Schweinsteiger advice for Gotze

West Ham are reportedly eyeing a move for Mario Gotze, who will be a free agent this summer, and his former Germany teammate Bastian Schweinsteger has offered advice on his future.

Both Sport Bild and The Evening Standard say David Moyes will be monitoring a move for the playmaker this summer.

Gotze was once a star in the Bundesliga and delivered the World Cup winning strike in 2014, but has fallen from grace in the years since and will be released by Borussia Dortmund at the end of his contract this summer.

“It is very, very unfortunate, I think,” Schweinsteiger told ARD-Sportschau on Gotze’s sporting struggles.

Football is back – but how will it work?

“We all know that Mario Gotze was a great talent when he was younger. Now at the age of 27 or 28, these are the best years in football.

“It doesn’t have to be the best club in Europe, but I hope that he will find a club where he will play.”

Wilshere explains Di Canio adoration

Hammers midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed the club’s cult hero Paolo Di Canio was the reason he fell in love with football.

The enigmatic Italian attacker was at Upton Park for four-and-a-half years and netted 51 goals for the club, including a memorable flying volley against Wimbledon which won the BBC Goal of the Season.

Wilshere - a lifelong fan of West Ham despite spending the majority of his career at Arsenal - outlined his love for Di Canio on his social media feed, as highlighted by Sports Lens .

West Ham’s Twitter account tweeted a picture of four club greats, asking fans ‘Who made them fall in love with football?’ Wilshere replied: “Di canio. Sorry skip (captain Mark Noble).”

The Englishman has made just 16 appearances in two seasons at the East London club due to a series of injury setbacks.

Rice no longer Man United ‘priority’ signing

Declan Rice is no longer considered to be a priority signing for Manchester United and a move this summer appears to be unlikely.

The Independent claims the Hammers player is still interesting the Reds, but they have several other signings higher on their list of objectives.

The England international has long been considered a target at Old Trafford, first under Jose Mourinho and then under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has prioritised signing young, English players.

However, Rice’s reported £75million price tag along with the form of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof has dissuaded United in making a move for the Hammers star.
