West Ham: Harry Maguire ready to leave Man United as David Moyes plots FOUR new signings

Harry Maguire has indicated he is keen to join West Ham if the Hammers can agree a fee with Manchester United.

West Ham have made a £30million bid for Maguire as they step up their transfer plans after agreeing a £32m deal to sign Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.

United are ready to offload Maguire and West Ham optimistic they can strike a deal for the England centre-back.

West Ham will not cover his £190,000-a-week wages but it is hoped he can come to an agreement with United to help cover his salary.

Maguire is ready for a fresh challenge and is excited by the prospect of a move to play under David Moyes at the London Stadium.

The 30-year-old knows a lack of playing time under Erik ten Hag could threaten his England prospects and he wants to be playing regularly ahead of Euro 2024 next summer.

Maguire has fallen well down the centre-back pecking order at Old Trafford and was stripped of the United captaincy last month.

Moyes, who has been frustrated by the lack of new signings at West Ham this summer, is targeting British players and wants to strengthen his centre-back options.

Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd formed an impressive partnership for the Hammers on their run to Europa Conference League glory last season, but both players have had injury issues.

West Ham are the only Premier League club yet to sign a player this summer. A new-look transfer committee also including Tim Steidten, the former Bayer Leverkusen executive brought in as technical director this summer, are yet to get a deal over the line.

But the Hammers are stepping up plans to reinvest some of the £105m fee they received from Arsenal for Declan Rice.

Alvarez has agreed terms on a five-year contract worth £100,000 a week and he was due to fly to London on Tuesday morning to undergo a medical over the next 48 hours.

Alvarez helped Mexico win the Gold Cup this summer and has not had a pre-season, so he is unlikely to be thrown straight in when West Ham kick-off the new season at Bournemouth on Saturday.

West Ham want to sign two midfielders following the departure of Rice and Moyes has targeted Maguire’s United team-mate Scott McTominay.

United yesterday rejected a £30m bid but West Ham are expected to pursue a move for the 26-year-old Scotland international.

West Ham are also expected to go back in for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse and they will also target a new striker after selling Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta.

Scamacca left on Sunday after just one season for an initial £22.5m plus £5m in add-ons, leaving Michail Antonio as the only recognised striker at West Ham.

West Ham enquired about Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke last month and are assessing their options.
