West Ham handed Michail Antonio injury boost as winger closes in on a return

Michail Antonio could return to action for West Ham soon after the upcoming international break.

The Hammers winger has been absent from the squad since tearing a hamstring in the 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Newport County on August 27, an injury so severe that it had to be left for a few days to swell down before it was operated on.

It is the third hamstring injury Antonio has suffered in his career and there were some initial fears he could be out until 2020.

However, manager Manuel Pellegrini delivered a positive update on the winger's progress at a press conference on Thursday where he revealed that Antonio could be back in contention for the visit of Spurs to London Stadium on November 23.

The 29-year-old also revealed how he's taking extra supplements to try and strengthen his hamstring, to ensure that he doesn't damage it for a fourth time in quick succession.

Speaking earlier this month as he opened up on his hamstring troubles, Antonio revealed he was taking extra supplements to try and strengthen his hamstring so that he won't be sidelined it for a fourth time in the future.

"It's been very frustrating for the fact that this is my third one," Antonio told BBC Radio 5Live Friday Football Social.

"Every time that I've done it, I've done it in a different place so it's not a recurring injury, it's a different one. The first time I did it, I did it at the bottom on my left, then I've done it at the top of my left, I've done the top of my right now.

"Hopefully, I can stay fit, it's not the muscle I'm injuring, it's the tendons.

"I've just got to try and strengthen that somehow. I'm taking more collagen shots and more turmeric and anything else that can make them stronger."
