Darren Randolph - Had very little to do with the few Reading efforts all being off target. 6
Ryan Fredericks - Broke forward well and at every opportunity but did not have the end product required on enough occasions. 6
Issa Diop - Diop was more vocal than he was last season with the Frenchman encouraging Dawson to push up and constantly talking to Johnson on the left-hand side of defence. Forced Dorsett into the own goal that gave West Ham the lead. 7
Craig Dawson - Caught out for pace on a couple of occasions but as is his usual way got in a couple of important blocks. Always a danger at set-pieces going forward. 6
Ben Johnson - Not as attacking as Fredericks but solid in defence and did what he needed to do well. 6
Mark Noble - Made an important tackle on the edge of his own box and in general passed the ball well from his central midfield spot looking to get the wide players involved. 6
Conor Coventry - Showed his passing range early with a lovely long ball, tidy in possession throughout, and in constant communication with Noble. 7
Jarrod Bowen - Lively from Bowen who looked dangerous on the counter-attack and created a couple of decent shooting opportunities for himself. Excellent set-piece delivery. 7
Armstrong Oko-Flex - Looked to run at the full-back whenever possible, did not quite have the end product required but a decent 45 minutes for the teenager. 6
Pablo Fornals - Almost opened the scoring in the first couple of minutes with a header that was well saved. His usual hard-working self who progressed the ball well for West Ham. Looked like he had never been away. 7
Michail Antonio - Even in a pre-season friendly Antonio's work rate is exceptional, on a number of occasions he was back helping out the defence as well as constantly piling the pressure on the Reading defenders. 7
