West Ham fringe players rated vs Oxford: Nathan Holland, Jack Wilshere, Ajeti and Balbuena

West Ham were left humiliated on Wednesday night as they conceding four times in the second half to lost 4-0 at Oxford United and exit the Carabao Cup.

On a tough night for the Hammers, here's how some of Manuel Pellegrini's squad players fared in Oxford...

Nathan Holland

West Ham fans have been excited to get a proper look at Nathan Holland but the 21-year-old failed to make any real impact on his first senior start. It would be wrong to judge Holland too harshly given how bad the rest of his team-mates were on a difficult night for the Hammers.

There has been plenty of excitement about Holland, who has scored three goals for the Under-23s this season. But after West Ham went 1-0 down early in the second half he was hauled off for Sebastien Haller.

Jack Wilshere

Wilshere still looks some way from his best after returning from his latest ankle injury. He struggled to have an influence against Oxford and was substituted after 65 minutes as West Ham chased the game.

Manuel Lanzini’s injury has presented an opening for Wilshere to get back into the West Ham team but he is hardly knocking on the door for place in the side.

Albian Ajeti

Ajeti has made a good early impression in training since his £8million summer move from Basel but the Switzerland frontman showed none of that promise against Oxford.

He started up front on his own and does not looked suited to playing as the lone striker.

Things did not get much better for Ajeti when Sebastien Haller came on to play alongside him in the second half. West Ham need to hope Haller stays fit this season.

Fabian Balbuena

The Paraguayan centre-back has lost his place to Angelo Ogbonna and it is difficult to see a way back into the team at the moment given West Ham have kept three successive clean sheets in the Premier League.

Manuel Pellegrini has admitted he rushed Balbuena back too soon for the start of the season after he played at the Copa America in the summer and he looked sluggish again here
