West Ham forward Jordan Hugill's first words after signing season loan deal at QPR

Jordan Hugill will be playing his football in west London this season after signing a loan deal at Queen's Park Rangers.

The forward has struggled for playing time at West Ham United since moving from Preston North End in January 2018, only making three appearances for the Hammers.

He will be calling Loftus Road home for the 2019/20 season after a slightly uninspiring season on loan at Middlesbrough last season that saw him make 37 Championship appearances, only scoring six goals.

Mark Warburton's QPR get their Championship season underway away at Stoke City on Saturday, August 3 and that game will be Hugill's first chance to impress his new side as they have completed their pre-season fixtures.

Before moving to east London in 2018 the 27-year-old had impressed as a young striker at Preston North End and earnt himself a deadline day move for a reported £10 million.

After signing for The Rs he told the club qpr.co.uk : "I want to get my head down and make my mark here, which is something I need to do for my career.

"The gaffer knows exactly what I’m about. He sees me as a perfect fit for his team and, as soon as I met him, he had me straight away. He’s a brilliant man and I’m happy to come to QPR and help the club.

Pellegrini: More work to do to be ready for the season

"I think we’re going to have a really good go this season, and I’m looking forward to the challenge that’s coming.

"I think I can be a focal point up front – the link-up man who teams are looking for these days. I’m in the best condition for myself, and I’m really looking forward to the season starting.

"To be wanted again and play football was the main thing for me, the manager made me feel wanted and went out of his way to make me feel welcome. Hopefully I can repay that faith."

Despite Hugill's struggles to pose a consistent threat since leaving Preston North End, Warburton is positive about what he can provide up front.

He said: "Jordan is someone who really can lead the line.

"We’ve had to be patient and wait for the right forwards to come along. It’s been great to bring Jan Mlakar in from Brighton, who is a younger striker, and Jordan is a more senior player given his experience in this division.

"He arrives with real quality and, alongside Jan, I’m hopeful we have a potent attacking force now."
