West Ham flop Roberto a shock transfer target for Atletico Madrid

West Ham flop Roberto has become a surprise target for Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish side are on the hunt for a back up to first-choice goalkeeper Jan Oblak and have identified Roberto, who started his career at the club and made five senior appearances, as a possible option, according to reports in his home country.

Roberto, 34, joined the Hammers on a free transfer last summer and was thrust into the spotlight following an injury to Lukasz Fabianski. A disastrous string of errors from Roberto saw him shipped out on loan to Alaves and ultimately cost Manuel Pellegrini his job.

David Moyes, who brought Darren Randolph back to the club in January to replace the hapless Roberto, is keen to clear out a number of players ahead of next season as he looks to shape the squad in his vision.

Another signing from last summer, striker Albian Ajeti, has been offered to Celtic on a season-long loan.

Meanwhile, the Hammers boss and striker Michail Antonio have been nominated for Premier League manager and Player of the Month, respectively.

Moyes steered West Ham clear of the drop for a second time, ending the season with a seven game unbeaten run across which Antonio bagged eight goals, including a four goal haul at Norwich.
