West Ham fans will love what Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said about Declan Rice

Declan Rice was chosen to start in the heart of the England midfield in the Nations League semi-final on Thursday night.

The West Ham man collected his third England cap on a disappointing night in Guimaraes, Portugal.

England took the lead through a Marcus Rashford first half penalty, but Matthijs de Ligt equalised in the second half, and the Netherlands went on to win it in extra-time as defensive errors gave them a 3-1 win.

Rice played all but the final half of extra-time, with Dele Alli being thrown on by Gareth Southgate at 2-1 down to try and add an attacking dimension.

Rice was talked up prior to kick-off, by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who was part of the Sky Sports team in Portugal for the clash.

And Carragher believes England have a real talent on their hands.

He said: "You talk about captains within the England team, you wouldn’t be surprised to see him as captain in two or three years if he cements that position.

"A few years ago it looked like Eric Dier would have that position for six or seven years, you’re talking about him as a future captain.

"I think now, in 12 months' time, he will be in that holding position and he’ll be our best player in there. There’s still talk of what his best position is and I think it is in there."
