West Ham fans are convinced Jesse Lingard will score against the Hammers once again after he was named in the starting line-up for Manchester United in their Carabao Cup third-round tie.
England attacker Lingard reinvigorated his career with the Hammers after joining on loan in January, scoring nine goals in 16 matches to help them qualify for the Europa League.
But after coming on as a late substitute for Manchester United at the London Stadium on Sunday, he promptly scored what turned out to be the winner with just two minutes to go as he made space for himself on the corner of the penalty area and launched a superb curler into the far corner.
Lingard previously told MUTV his muted celebrations following his winning goal against West Ham at the weekend were out of respect for his former club.
He said: "They supported me in the loan spell and gave me a great reception, so it was only right to pay them back.
"It was a great reception from the West Ham fans. I had a brilliant time here, but I had to do my bit."
But after he was named in the starting line-up to face the Hammers in the Carabao Cup, fans have predicted Lingard will score once again.
Here's what fans are saying on social media following the announcement of the starting line-up.
@Johnjam10John: "Looking into my crystal balls….Lingard to score and Noble to score a pen."
@WHUJesse: "Another Lingard goal inbound."
@WestHamRambles: "Lingard. Obvs."
Man United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has rested Cristiano Ronaldo for the Carabao Cup game, with the Portuguese superstar not even named on the bench.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 11 changes from Sunday’s Premier League win with Dean Henderson making his first appearance of the season as Phil Jones named in Manchester United’s matchday squad for the first time in 19 months.
