West Ham fail to flog flop midfielder Carlos Sanchez after he turned down January move

West Ham midfielder Carlos Sanchez turned down moves to Turkey and Spain in order to fight for his place at West Ham for the rest of the season, football.london understands.

The Colombian international is out of contract at the end of the season following a less than stellar 18 months so far in east London having struggled for form throughout and also suffered a serious knee injury not long after joining the club.

There was interest from Turkish Super Lig side Antalayasport as well as Spanish trio Leganes, Huesca and Cadiz in taking on the midfielder on loan for the rest of the campaign.

Football.London understands that La Liga side Leganes pushed hardest to sign Sanchez but the players refusal to sanction a move, despite no guarantee of any playing time for the rest of the season in east London, saw a move collapse.

The Spanish strugglers then decided to shift their attention elsewhere and snared Ibrahim Amadou, who was on loan for the first half of this season at Norwich City, from Sevilla instead after giving up on Sanchez.

Sanchez was not part of the matchday 18 as West Ham threw away a two-goal cushion to draw 3-3 with Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend in the Premier League.

Sanchez was a £4m signing from Fiorentina in the summer of 2018 but goes down as one of the biggest transfer busts under the former Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos era in east London having penned a two-year, £64,000 a week contract.

The 33-year-old suffered a serious knee injury in the early stages of West Ham's 9-0 Carabao Cup rout of Macclesfield Town in September 2018 and missed the rest of the season as a result.

In 2019/20, Sanchez has played just nine times in all competitions and hasn't featured for the Hammers in the league since the 2-1 defeat to Leicester on December 28.

Despite Sanchez wanting to fight for his starting spot at West Ham, football.london understands the club has no intention of offering him a new contract beyond this summer.
