West Ham face nightmare Premier League scenario with 12 players on brink of World Cup dream

The group stages for World Cup qualification in Europe and Africa came to an end on Tuesday and with it a number of West Ham players have helped their countries secure passage to Qatar 2022.

Declan Rice missed England's final two qualifiers with illness but previously played a key part in the Three Lions qualification group. Pablo Fornals helped Spain secure their spot by winning Group B and Nikola Vlasic's Croatia are also heading to Qatar having topped their qualification group. Kurt Zouma and Alphonse Areola were part of the successful France squad that ensured they will be defending their trophy next year.

A number of Hammers stars still have hope to join their teammates at the winter World Cup as the qualification process moves into the play-off phase during the next international window in March 2022.

With that in mind football.london has a rundown of what the West Ham internationals need to do to get to Qatar 2022.

Algeria

Said Benrahma was a second-half substitute as Algeria secured the point they needed against Burkina Faso to top their qualification group and progress to the final stage of CAF qualification.

Algeria will face a two-legged playoff match in March with the winner securing a spot at the World Cup.

Czech Republic

West Ham have three men in the Czech Republic squad but only two were in action on Tuesday evening. With a play-off spot already secured Tomas Soucek was handed a rest and Alex Kral took his place in the team while Vladimir Coufal stood in as captain.

The Czech's will be unseeded for the European play-off draw meaning they face a play-off semi-final away from home in March against one of Portugal, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Sweden or Wales.

DR Congo

Arthur Masuaku helped his country into the final round of CAF qualifying and DR Congo will face a two-legged play-off as a result. With Algeria also through Masuaku and Hammers teammate Benrahma could come up against each other in the winner takes all match.

Jamaica

Michail Antonio made it two goals in two matches this international break and did so in style. His first goal for his country was a powerful run and dinked finish against El Salvador whilst his second was a ferocious strike into the top corner from 30-yards versus the US.

However, both matches ended in draws and it leaves the Reggae Boyz with a tough job to qualify. They currently sit seven points off both an automatic qualification spot and an inter-confederation play-off with six matches remaining having won just one of their opening eight games.

Ukraine

Andriy Yarmolenko may have 106 caps for his country but he has never played in the World Cup. His hopes of reaching Qatar 2022 were hanging by a thread but following a 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina coupled with France defeating Finland, Yarmolenko will have one last shot via the play-offs.

As with the Czech Republic, Ukraine go into the play-off semi-finals unseeded and will face a one-off away match in March before a potential winner takes all play-off final.
