West Ham 'eye' Filip Kostic alternative in £20m move amid Everton and Nottingham Forest links

West Ham United have been linked with interest in signing Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet in a deal reportedly worth £20million.

While Burnley failed to impress last term before being relegated down to the Championship, one player who did shine for them was versatile Ivorian Cornet, who scored nine goals and provided one assist from 26 games last term, scoring over a quarter of the Clarets’ league goals last season.

A versatile winger, Cornet can also play as both a left wing-back and at left-back, suggesting that signing him could be an alternative option to landing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic, who has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium.

The Sun, via Patreon, claim that Hammers boss David Moyes is a big fan of Cornet’s and would be willing to splash out £20m to sign the Ivorian. It also claims that Everton have had a loan-to-buy option turned down for him, while interest from Fulham and Nottingham Forest has recently stalled.

It was believed that Cornet’s contract had a release clause in it should Burnley get relegated. However, the report suggests that said clause has been deemed null and void after details of it were made public.

West Ham have already spent in the region of £80m already this summer after signing Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes and Gianluca Scamacca, as well as links with interest in Kostic and Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski.
