West Ham end 189-day wait for victory against Wolves as Divin Mubama continues form

West Ham United’s under-21s recorded their first victory of the Premier League 2 campaign on Monday night with a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Rush Green.

In a starting 11 that consisted of seven of the 16 players that featured in the Europa Conference League win over FCSB last Thursday, including all four senior debutants, two of them got the goals for Mark Robson’s side.

One of them, Kamarai Swyer, opened the scoring when converting at the end of Harrison Ashby’s cross, with Ashby being sent down the right by a brilliant Freddie Potts pass. Ashby, however, gave Wolves an equaliser ten minutes later when volleying into his own net.

Striker Divin Muabama, who started against FCSB, was the hero in the final ten minutes. He first converted a penalty to make it 2-1 when Potts’ shot was blocked by a handball, with Mubama sending Wolves goalkeeper Andreas Sondergaard the wrong way.
Just minutes later, Mubama got his second and West Ham’s third to seal the win when Swyer’s shot was saved and Mubama converted on the rebound.

That victory was West Ham’s first in Premier League 2 since their final league game of last season, 189 days ago, when beating Derby County 5-0. On that day Sonny Perkins scored twice, with Thierry Nevers, Andriy Yarmolenko, and Mubama all getting on the scoresheet. From the starting 11 in that game, Perkins, Yarmolenko and Aji Alese have all left the club, while Nevers, Manny Longelo and Daniel Chesters have all left on loan.

The Hammers are still bottom of the league, but they could move off the foot of the table when they take on London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night, with Spurs sitting a point ahead of them in 13th position, aka second bottom.
