West Ham duo hold the hopes of a nation in their hands ahead of Euro 2020

West Ham may only have five players involved in this summer's European Championships, but at least four of them are vital to their country's chances of progression and ultimately glory.

Declan Rice has started nine of England's last ten competitive internationals, only sitting out the visit of lowly San Marino, and is seen as key to England's midfield.

Andriy Yarmolenko is approaching a century of appearances for Ukraine and in his most recent appearance for the country netted twice to take his international tally to 40 goals in 94 caps.

West Ham No.1 Lukasz Fabianski will be more of a back up for his country unless injury strikes Poland's starting goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The remaining Hammers on show at Euro 2020 are Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, both of whom have been described as the players the Czech Republic are 'pinning their hopes on', according to former Czech goalkeeper Tomas Cerny.

"I think Tomas Soucek is a really important player and I think he should be one of the leaders along with Vladimir Coufal, who's also had a really good season at West Ham," Cerny told Sky Sports.

"I think the nation will be really pinning their hopes on these two players helping the team. It will be really interesting to see what sort of form the team take into the tournament."

The Czech Republic face the tough task of playing both Scotland and England in their home stadiums in front of boisterous crowds with a match against Croatia in-between.

However, thanks to Soucek and Coufal's experience in England, Cerny is confident the West Ham pair can provide some insight into the English game before the trip to Wembley on June 22 for the final Group D clash.

"I'm sure the manager will have conversations with them to get a little insight into England's team," Cerny added.

"They'll do their research and the teams met in the qualifying group, of course. It was a very difficult experience at Wembley but a very positive one in Prague.

"So the team knows they can beat England under certain conditions and circumstances and they'll try to take confidence from that match in Prague where they beat England 2-1, albeit a long time ago."

The Czech Republic have never won against the Three Lions in England but they have fond memories of playing in the country after a memorable Euro '96.

Led by the likes of Pavel Nedved, Karel Poborsky and Patrick Berger the Czech's took Germany to extra-time in the final before losing to an Oliver Bierhoff golden goal.

The Czech's continued to punch above their weight in international football reaching the semi-final of Euro 2004, before once again losing out to an extra-time strike, this time to eventual winners Greece.

By the 2006 World Cup, the Cezch Republic were the number two ranked country in the world but it has been a steady decline since that heady height.

Soucek and Coufal will do well to emulate the Czech teams of the 1990s and 2000s as Cerny pointed out.

"It's a talented group of players with lots of potential," he said.

"But the expectation will be very different compared to those from, say, the early 2000s when we had leading players in every position."
