West Ham defender Issa Diop reacts to Manchester United and Chelsea transfer rumours

West Ham defender Issa Diop insists he has not been distracted by the rumours which linked him with Manchester United last year.

United were loosely linked with a move for the French defender last summer before eventually securing a deal for England international Harry Maguire.

Diop has continued to impress at the London Stadium this season and recent reports have now seen him linked with a move to local rivals Chelsea.

The 23-year-old admits his friends often send him screenshots of the latest gossip regarding his future but Diop insists he is not letting it distract him.

“It doesn’t make me hot or cold,” he told Foot Mercato.

“I’m not in negotiations, I don’t want to know which club is interested in me.

“So for me, it doesn’t really change anything.

“Most of the time, they are friends who send me screenshots to tell me: “Issa is watching” . I don’t even know first.

“Then it’s the transfer window, there are things that are true, others that are false.

“So honestly, I don’t pay too much attention to it.”

Diop put in a commanding performance back two years ago when West Ham brushed United aside to secure a 3-1 victory in the Premier League, and speaking after the match former manager Jose Mourinho heaped praise on the youngster.

"A fantastic match," Mourinho told BT Sport following the defeat at the London Stadium. "Congratulations to the scout that found a 21-year-old kid Diop - a monster who dominated everything in the duels.”
