West Ham could reignite '£18m' interest in Nottingham Forest defender - report

West Ham United boss David Moyes could be set to reignite his transfer interest in Nottingham Forest defender Matty Cash when the summer window finally opens, claims a report by Football London.

The Hammers are said to have already seen an £18m bid turned down by Sabri Lamouchi's side, claims a report by the Sun, but the right-back remains a key target for Premier League clubs looking to recruit ahead of next season.

His impressive performances in Garibaldi attracted the attention of Everton and AC Milan during January, with the San Siro club thought to be the most likely to launch a successful bid for his services.

But he remained at the City Ground where his performances went from strength to strength during the second half of the season.

"I know about footballers," said Moyes when quizzed on his summer recruitment plans.

"That idea of getting players who are hungry, who still want to climb the ladder and are trying to be Premier League players, we have to have a mix of that.

“What we have been saying in recent years is that we can buy someone ready-made who can come [straight] in. I am saying: ‘Stop. Stop.’ Let’s go for people who we think are young, future internationals.

"We won’t get them all right, it is impossible. We need to bring people in who have got a chance, not just ones who are plugging the gap, take and go away and not giving us anything at the end of it."

Cash has made 123 Championship appearances for Forest since graduating from the club's academy.

His current long-term deal will not expire until 2023.
