West Ham consider late Mads Hermansen exit as Championship clubs eye move before deadline

West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is attracting loan interest from Leicester ahead of deadline day.

Standard Sport understands Hermansen’s former club are among a number of Championship clubs interested in the Dane.

West Ham have been pushing to send Hermansen, who joined the club in an £18million deal from Leicester last summer, out on loan this month.

But they are now hesitant to let the 25-year-old leave without bringing in a replacement.

West Ham have been in the market for a goalkeeper to provide competition for Alphonse Areola.

The Hammers entered initial negotiations with Al Nassr goalkeeper Bento at the start of the window and also hold an interest in Chelsea back-up Filip Jorgensen.

Hermansen is keen to play regularly ahead of this summer’s World Cup, having started just five games for West Ham in all competitions.

Hermansen was brought in by former West Ham manager Graham Potter, who also brought his former goalkeeping coach Casper Ankergren to the club.

Hermansen started the season as West Ham No1 but was dropped after a series of error-strewn performances.

Following Potter’s departure at the end of September, Ankergren also left the club and Hermansen has failed to break back into the team under Nuno Espirito Santo.

West Ham have been busy in the January window, with Nuno keen to redress the balance of the squad.

The Hammers have signed forwards Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos and Pablo Felipe as well as wingers Adama Traore and Keiber Lamadrid.

They have also sanctioned several departures, with Niclas Fullkrug, Luis Guilherme, Guido Rodriguez and Andy Irving all leaving the club in January.
