West Ham confirmed team news: David Moyes makes nine changes vs Brentford, Maxwel Cornet starts

West Ham United boss David Moyes has named his side to face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Hammers will look to confirm their safety in this season’s Premier League and know that a win would mathematically seal their survival. However, if they draw, they know that if Liverpool avoid defeat against Leicester City on Monday night, that would also confirm safety.

As the Irons aim to seal a third straight win in the space of a week in all competitions, Moyes has made nine changes to face Brentford from the side that beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in the Europa Conference League less than 72 hours ago.

Ahead of Thursday's second leg with Alkmaar in the Netherlands, Moyes has rotated the pack to rest key players for the game, with only Nayef Aguerd and Tomas Soucek keeping their places from the first leg win.

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianksi returns in goal after not being used in midweek. A back four of Ben Johnson, Aguerd and Emerson are completed with Angelo Ogbonna, who missed the first leg through illness.

Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta have both been spared, with Flynn Downes and Manuel Lanzini coming in to join Soucek in the heart of midfield.

Danny Ings leads the line up front, with Pablo Fornals and Maxwel Cornet starting either side of him. It is Cornet's first league start in seven and a half months and only his second for West Ham.

Striker Michail Antonio is not in the squad after picking up a knock in midweek, so 18-year-old forward Divin Mubama makes the bench.

Striker Gianluca Scamacca remains sidelined due to a long-term knee issue. Right-back Vladimir Coufal is also absent after picking up a hamstring injury against Manchester City earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has made three changes from the side that lost to Liverpool 1-0 last Saturday.
