West Ham confirm Sebastien Haller shirt number after club-record £45m transfer

West Ham United's new signing Sebastien Haller has been handed the No22 shirt after finalising his record transfer.

The 25-year-old arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £45million deal on Wednesday, signing a five-year deal with the Hammers.

The deal makes him the club's most expensive acquisition, surpassing the £42m spent to sign Felipe Anderson from Lazio last summer.

The Irons have now revealed that the French striker will wear the No22 - previously worn by Sam Byram, who left for Norwich City last week - on the back of his claret and blue shirt.

Haller wore the same number for three seasons when he played for FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie.

West Ham fans will be keen for the striker to enjoy the same level of success with that number in east London, with Haller having scored 51 times in 98 appearances for the Dutch outfit.

Haller was handed the No9 shirt after joining Frankfurt in 2017, but with Javier Hernandez currently occupying that number at West Ham, the towering striker has gone back to 22.

West Ham fans could see their new signing in action when Manuel Pellegrini's men welcome LaLiga side Athletic Bilbao to the London Stadium on August 3.
