West Ham confirm sale of Sebastien Haller to Ajax for £20.26m

Ajax have completed the signing of Sebastien Haller from West Ham in a deal worth €22.5 million (£20.26m).

The Eredivisie side agreed a fee for the French-Ivorian striker in recent days, and the forward has signed a four-and-a-half year contract at the Amsterdam club.

In a statement, the Hammers said: "West Ham United can confirm Sebastien Haller has joined Ajax on a permanent basis.

"The Ivory Coast international centre-forward ends his stay with the Hammers after making 50 appearances in all competitions and scoring 14 goals across 18 months, following his summer 2019 arrival from German club Eintracht Frankfurt.

West Ham players to be given a break after win at Everton

"The 26-year-old returns to the Netherlands, where he previously spent two-and-a-half seasons with Utrecht.

"West Ham United would like to thank Sebastien for his contribution to the Club and wish him all the best for his future career."

Haller's move ends his disappointing spell in east London, after joining from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019 for a club-record fee of £45 million.

The 26-year-old has struggled to earn regular game time under David Moyes, with Michail Antonio often preferred as the lone striker when fit.

Haller has recently had an extended run in the side due to Antonio's injury problems, but only managed to score three Premier League goals.

With the deal now completed, West Ham are left thin on striking options and will be looking for a replacement to strengthen their forward options.

One player reported to be a target is Ajax's teenage striker Lassina Traoré, as reported by Football.London on Wednesday.

The Hammers have also been linked with Czech international Adam Hlozek of Sparta Prague. The 18-year-old international teammate of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal has started the season impressively, scoring four and assisting five goals in just six league games. However, the striker has been out injured recently and has not made an appearance since October.

Elsewhere, Robert Snodgrass is on the verge of a permanent move away from the club to link up with former Hammers manager Sam Allardyce at West Bromwich Albion.
