West Ham co-chairman believes London Stadium move is "proudest moment" of last decade

While he also admitted that he had some regrets over the move, West Ham co-chairman David Gold has also said moving the club to London Stadium in 2016 was the best thing to happen to the Hammers.

West Ham upped sticks from the Boleyn Ground and moved three and a half miles to the former Olympic Stadium ahead of the 2016/17 season and was best by issues, some have been rectified while others have not.

There are those who will believe that London Stadium will never truly be West Ham's home, but it will be for the next 95 years, and others who are happy with the arena despite it's problems.

Sightlines and the distance from the stands to the pitch is the biggest bugbear of them all though the club is attempting to sort that out by squaring off the north and south stands at the stadium to bring fans closer to the action.

While Gold also said he regrets the distances involved and that he "should have kept my mouth shut" over the issue, the Hammers co-owner also believes moving from Upton Park was the right thing to do.

In an interview with Blowing Bubbles magazine's December issue, Gold was asked what was his proudest achievement as he and David Sullivan close in on ten years at the club: "The move to the Olympic Stadium – without a shadow of a doubt.

"Despite the anger from some fans, I will never alter my stance on this. I knew back in 2010 that this football club had more chance of competing with our rivals, particularly our rivals in London with Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, by moving to the Olympic Stadium.

"We were miles behind them in terms of stadia but now I think weve shown glimpses of having a platform to springboard to seriously challenge our London rivals, thanks to our fantastic fanbase."
