West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini can’t wait for VAR arrival as offside error costs Hammers

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini was left to rue the absence of VAR, after a wrongly disallowed goal cost his side victory against Leicester at the London Stadium.

Forward Michail Antonio opened the scoring for Pellegrini’s side in the Premier League clash, only for Jamie Vardy to level with his 16th league goal of the season.

Substitute Lucas Perez put the Hammers 2-1 ahead in the 82nd minute, and looked to have wrapped up all three points with a second soon after, only to see the offside flag raised.

Replays showed the former Arsenal man had been onside, and Pellergini’s misery was compounded when Harvey Barnes’ stoppage time goal rescued a point for Leicester, with Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers admitting afterwards that his side had “got away with one”.

VAR, already in use in the Champions League, will be employed in the Premier League from the start of next season, and the Chilean says its arrival can’t come soon enough.

"I think we deserved more than a draw,” Pellegrini told the BBC. “We should have been leading 3-1 but it was a mistake of the linesman.

"I've seen the goal again and he was one metre onside. There is nothing you can do about that. Next season when we have VAR it can be more fair.

"We generally played well but you cannot concede two goals."
