West Ham boss David Moyes makes statement over January transfer window priorities

West Ham boss David Moyes has said that the Hammers will not be signing players just to make up numbers in the January transfer window.

With just one week to go before the deadline, the Hammers continue to be linked with a number of players as they continue to battle to try and avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Among the players linked in recent days with a move to West Ham is Slavia Prague midfielder Tomas Soucek, with the Czech Republic international emerging as a potential signing for the Hammers.

But while Moyes has said that he would like to make additions in the closing stages of the window, he said any new arrival must be in a position to make a difference in the coming weeks and months.

Everything you need to know about the January transfer window

"[We are] Not going to do anything that isn’t good for the club," he said, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of West Ham's game with West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup fourth round.

"We could do with adding but people who will help, not just another number.

"I want someone who can make a difference and feature in the team. If we’re not bringing that in then it needs to be young players for the long-term. A balance is not that easy."
