West Ham boss David Moyes confirms Michail Antonio injury blow ahead of Liverpool

West Ham manager David Moyes has confirmed that Michail Antonio will miss his side’s clash with Liverpool tomorrow evening.

Antonio suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

The 30-year-old has been in outstanding form since football returned in June, scoring 11 goals in 13 games playing as a centre-forward.

But now the Hammers will have to prepare for life without Antonio whose injury, Moyes has confirmed, is not too bad but enough to keep him out of the game at Anfield.

“He's been great for us, he's an important member of the team,” Moyes said in his press conference as cited by football.london.

“We don't think it is too bad but it is enough to keep him out of this game that is for sure.”

The former Everton boss added: “We have really shown a great team ethic. We can score from all different areas, we are playing well.

“I am sure Liverpool will say the same with [Virgil] van Dijk. We will miss him, Micky has been as good as any striker in the league.”

Moyes’ side have picked up eight points so far this season and he believes his charges could benefit from there being no fans inside Anfield for the game.

He said: “Obviously you'd rather play Liverpool without Virgil van Dijk but the big thing is going to Liverpool without any supporters, so no crowd behind them, might make a big difference.”

Moyes added: “You're playing the champions and it is always a tough game.

“We saw the run of fixtures, we knew it would be difficult but we have to make the most of it. We are good players, results make a big difference.

“Last year we were really unfortunate not to get a result at Anfield, there have been real signs of improvement.

“The players, so far, with the exception of Newcastle have shown a good level of consistency.”
