West Ham have completed a deal to sign Gianluca Scamacca and finally bolster David Moyes’ attack.

A new striker has been a top priority for the Hammers for some time and the Italian arrives after the club were knocked back in a bid for Chelsea youngster Armando Broja.

On Tuesday, West Ham announced Scamacca’s transfer from Sassuolo for an initial £30.5million with the deal thought to contain an additional £5m in add-ons.

The 23-year-old will wear the number seven shirt for the Hammers.

“We’ve been looking to add more strength to our attacking options for a while, so we’re delighted to have got Gianluca in,” Moyes said after the signing was confirmed.

“He comes really well recommended – and we’re looking forward to working with him.

“He’s a young centre-forward with a really bright future ahead of him.”

The Italy international hit 16 goals in Serie A last year as part of a successful campaign that included making his Azzurri debut, having previously spent time on loan at the likes of Genoa and Ascoli.

Formerly a part of Roma and PSV Eindhoven’s youth systems, Scamacca is West Ham’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola and Flynn Downes. He is also the third most-expensive signing in club history.
