West Ham and Tottenham lay wreaths in memory of Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha ahead of EFL Cup tie

West Ham and Tottenham paid tribute to those who died in the Leicester helicopter crash ahead of their EFL Cup meeting at London Stadium on Wednesday.

Leicester City chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others were killed when their helicopter spiralled out of control shortly after leaving King Power Stadium following Saturday's match between Leicester and West Ham.

Former West Ham and Leicester City striker Tony Cottee laid a wreath on behalf of West Ham, while ex-Spurs captain Ledley King represented the visitors during a pre-match tribute. Both were accompanied to the centre circle by West Ham owner David Gold, who hailed Mr Srivaddhanaprabha's "immense contribution to football" ahead of kick-off.

The message #TogetherForLeicester was displayed on the stadium screens before both teams paused to observe a minute’s silence in memory of the victims. Both sets of players also wore black armbands.

In a joint-statement on West Ham's website, Gold and David Sullivan said: "The thought that someone might attend a football match and not return home safely to their family afterwards is something that we all find very difficult to comprehend.

"We have all been touched by the tragic circumstances surrounding the loss of a man who made such an immense contribution to his club, the city of Leicester, and English football in general."
