West Ham agree £4million Middlesbrough transfer as Cardiff City man's future takes big twist

West Ham have agreed a £4million move for Middlesbrough's Darren Randolph - all but ending their reported interest in Cardiff City's Neil Etheridge.

The Boro stopper, 32, is set to return to the London Stadium after a two-year stint on Teesside, according to the Guardian .

The Republic of Ireland international was keen for top-flight football after losing his first-team spot at the Riverside following an injury in November.

The Hammers identified Randolph after high-profile errors from back-up keeper Roberto, who has been deputising for the injured Lukasz Fabianski.

Cardiff man Etheridge was on West Ham's list of candidates to go for should a deal for Randolph not materialise. Football League World reported on Monday that the Premier League club were readying a £3.5million bid for the 29-year-old - a fee considerably less than what was touted for him in the summer.

The Philippines international is out of contract in South Wales next year and attracted interest from Aston Villa during the previous transfer window.

Etheridge's form has dipped at times this season but manager Neil Harris would have been loathe to lose the shot-stopper mid-season and now appears to set to remain in South Wales.
