West Ham forced to admit defeat to move Southampton kick off time at London Stadium

West Ham have had to admit defeat in their attempts to move the kick off for their final home game of the season at London Stadium against Southampton.

The Hammers had requested the kick off time for the game on May 4 be brought forward to 12.30pm which would allow fans to go to not only that game but also to the Women's FA Cup final, where the West Ham Women are taking on Manchester City at 5.30pm.

However, the Hammers have been unable to move the Premier League game against the Saints to an earlier time to allow supporters to attend both so it will remain a 3pm start in E20.

Football.London understands that the Hammers are exploring the possibility of showing the cup final on the big screens at either end of the London Stadium, however that is in a very early stage and nothing is definite yet.

West Ham said in a statement that potential travel issues for supporters who had already bought tickets for the Southampton match and their journeys to the game to go along with it was the main reason why the kick off time couldn't be switched.

"Despite the Club’s very best efforts, it was decided that it wouldn't be possible due to the potential inconvenience caused to supporters who had already planned their journeys and purchased tickets," the club said.

"Therefore, the game will remain at the originally scheduled time of 3pm.

"West Ham United would like to thank all of our loyal supporters and sincerely appreciates the fantastic backing they give to all who pull on the famous claret and blue."

Matt Beard's women's team have reached the FA Cup final for the first time in the club's history and got there by beating Reading on penalties in the semi final. City saw off Chelsea in the other semi to make it to Wembley.

Remaining tickets for the Saints match are now available for general sale via the usual outlets.
