West End hit Mr Popper's Penguins is coming to Manchester this Christmas

The hit Broadway and West End family musical Mr Popper’s Penguins is coming to Greater Manchester this Christmas.

Following a sell-out run at The Lowry back in 2015, the show is coming to Waterside in Sale for five weeks from the end of November.

With original songs and performing penguin puppets, the 'delightful and action-packed' musical adaptation of Richard and Florence Atwater’s book - which was also made into a Hollywood film starring Jim Carey - promises to 'charm audiences of all ages'.

The show, by Pins and Needles Productions, follows the story of Mr Popper, a painter and decorator by day, who dreams of Antarctic adventures.

He is astounded when one day a packing crate arrives on his doorstep, out of which waddles a penguin.

Waterside manager Darren Adams said: "We are so thrilled to welcome back Pins and Needles to Waterside after two hugely successful and record breaking years which saw unprecedented sales and responses to their stunning and charming productions of Father Christmas and The Bear.

"This year, we are delighted that their internationally acclaimed Mr Popper’s Penguins is making its way back to the UK after a successful New York run on Broadway and right on to our stage for the first time to thrill and delight our audiences.”

The show - an hour long with no interval - is running from Tuesday, November 26 until Tuesday, December 31 and is recommended for children aged three to 11.

Tickets, from £12.50, can be booked online . All 6pm performances are 'slumber shows' where children can dress in their pyjamas and milk and cookies can be ordered for £2.50.
