West Dunbartonshire pet lovers wanted to give guinea pigs a forever home

Best friends Joey and Chandler are desperate for a brand new home.

The cute guinea pigs are among four twosomes and a solo pig currently being cared for at the Scottish SPCA’s Dunbartonshire and West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

The Milton centre has bonded pals, Toots and Danny, Casper and Valentino, Joey and Chandler, Mushu and Mulan and solo pig Thomas who they are keen to pass onto a loving home.

Centre assistant manager, Ally Bibby, said, “We are desperate to find homes for our wee pigs.

“Friends Joey and Chandler definitely have a ‘bromance’ going on. They love to interact with each other and gnaw on treats to keep their teeth healthy. Joey and Chandler could potentially live with responsible older children.

“Casper and Valentino are two very handsome long-haired pigs who will require regular grooming to keep them looking gorgeous. They can be a little shy so will need a patient owner while they settle in.

“Nervous boys Mushu and Mulan will need an experienced home where a new owner will be patient and gradually handle and socialise them. Due to their nature, they are not suitable to be rehomed with children.

“Toots and Danny are only six weeks old and have been regularly handled at the centre so would be suited to most homes as long as they can continue to receive daily attention and toys to keep them busy.

“And little lone pig Thomas is a quiet wee man looking for love and attention. He is neutered so could potentially live with a female but we’re not sure if he’d enjoy living with other pigs. Anyone wanting to rehome Thomas with another Guinea pig would have to do very slow introductions and be aware that they might not be able to be housed together.

“All of our piggies will need plenty of socialisation and enrichment to keep them happy and healthy.”

Anyone wanting to rehome any of the Guinea pigs will need to live within Dunbartonshire due to the current travel restrictions. If people are successful with their application, then the pets will be brought to their new home by a Scottish SPCA team member.
