West Dunbartonshire pension campaigners take part in poignant service

Local members of the WASPI campaign headed to Manchester recently for a poignant memorial service.

Liz Daly and Mary Theresa Hansen represented the West Dunbartonshire WASPI group as they paid respect to women who died before reaching the new pension age of 66.

The members are fighting the change to the state pension age which gave women born in the 1950s little opportunity to make financial plans for their futures.

A special memorial service was held at the Emmeline Pankhurst statue in St Peter’s Square, to pay respect.

Peter Aldous MP and Andrew Gwynne MP who are on the All Party Political Group (APPG) both addressed the rally and agreed a fair and fast solution should be found, based on the recently published Parliamentary Ombudsman’s
Report.

This declared that there had been a maladministration by the DWP however it remains to be seen whether those affected will receive compensation.
