West Dunbartonshire parents to wear masks at school pick up and drop off

Parents picking their children up and dropping them off at school should wear face coverings from Monday.

Deputy First Minister John Swinney confirmed the change to guidance during the Scottish Government’s daily briefing today (Friday).

He also advised that S4 to S6 pupils should wear face coverings in the classrooms and that staff in all levels of schooling should have masks on in all common areas.

West Dunbartonshire will be subject to level three restrictions

Mr Swinney said: “Face coverings should be worn by parents and other visitors to schools even if not entering the building, when people are picking up and dropping off children.”

He also confirmed that previous advice where face coverings should be worn by teachers where there is sustained contact of under two metres with pupils has been updated.

Now, masks should be worn “wherever an adult can’t keep two metres distance from other adults and pupils”.

He added: “That applies to all levels however there will be some exceptions for primary one and two.”

Mr Swinney also said that there would also be exceptions for children with additional support needs.
