West Dunbartonshire councillor fears Standards Commission probe

An outspoken councillor is convinced he will be reported to the Standards Commission over comments he made on fraud and corruption claims against senior West Dunbartonshire Council officers.

Councillor Jim Bollan spoke at length at a special council meeting earlier this month.

He pleaded with fellow councillors to support his call for an independent inquiry saying: “The word on the steamie is the whole council’s corrupt and if you don’t deal with it, that will fester.

“The only way to do that is to make a fresh start, to have an independent inquiry.”

He was warned several times by legal officer Peter Hesset for his comments.

Speaking this week, the community party member said: “My gut feeling is that I will be reported to the Standards Commission once the police investigation has come to a conclusion.

“I stand by my comments. and I have nothing to hide.

“If I get reported, I will look forward to presenting all the information there in a public forum.”
