West Dunbartonshire Council say grit is in good supply

No home should be more than 300 metres away from their closest supply of grit.

West Dunbartonshire Council confirmed the situation after a cold snap hit the area last week bringing some disruption to residents.

The Lennox Herald was contacted by a resident in Braehead, Bonhill last week to say some keyworkers were struggling to get out of the street to make essential journeys to their workplace because the area hadn’t been gritted.

It is also understood taxis were getting stuck while trying to get up the hill.

But a spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council confirmed: “Our gritting team reacts quickly to detailed forecasting to ensure that West Dunbartonshire’s road network remains open and safe during adverse weather.

“Ahead of and during the most recent weather warnings, the team have continually treated priority, primary and secondary routes, including Bonhill.

“In addition, we have in excess of 480 grit bins with no home more than 300 metres from their closest supply, and these are being refilled regularly to ensure residents can use it on more minor roads or streets.”
