West Dunbartonshire Council 'on track' to double free childcare hours

The council is on track for implementing plans to double free childcare hours, a meeting has heard.

The local authority is currently recruiting extra staff to cope with the demand but notes that it is in competition with other councils implementing the national scheme.

West Dunbartonshire Council has a phasing plan , which chiefs say ensures the entitlement for every three and four-year-old will be in place by 2020/21 at nurseries across the area.

Seven childminders have also agreed to trial the model.

A report which went to an education committee meeting last week reads: “Progress across the key objectives of our implemetation plan including workforce planning, delivering high quality early learning childcare and working with funded partner providers and childminders, remain on track, with target dates set for delivery of each project.”
