West Dunbartonshire Council leader urges caution for families meeting over Christmas

People intending to meet up with family and friends over Christmas are being urged to be sensible by West Dunbartonshire Council’s leader.

Councillor Jonathan McColl told a council meeting last week that he wanted to warn those wishing to take up the flexibility of slightly eased restrictions over the festive period to do so cautiously.

Last week, it was agreed between all four UK nations that people could form a bubble with a maximum of two other households and would be able to meet them indoors between December 23 and 27.

However, Nicola Sturgeon told the nation that people should only do so if they feel it necessary and, even then, should make sure they are minimising close contact, washing hands regularly and cleaning hard surfaces to minimise the risk of Covid transmission.

If any member of the bubble was to contract coronavirus, all people within that group would have to self-isolate as a result.

Councillor McColl echoed these feelings saying: “I would like to reiterate the Scottish Government’s message to use the relaxation over the festive period sensibly and to take precautions if you are meeting more family or friends over Christmas.”

He also took the opportunity to thank residents for sticking to the restrictions which he says are baring fruit.

The council leader went on: “I want to thank all of the communities across West Dunbartonshire for the efforts they are making and our staff for the work they are continuing to do in supporting our constituents.

“Our figures are going in the right direction so those efforts aren’t in
vain.”
