West Dunbartonshire Community Party say they would demand more council funding if in power

West Dunbartonshire Community Party say they would demand funding from the UK Government to ensure enough money is available to fund the services the council need to provide if they were in power.

Louise Robertson from the party says there needs to be more investment in public service rather than a series of cuts.

We revealed last week that cutting lollipop patrollers, delaying the launch of free school meals to include all primary school children and axing Christmas light switch-ons have all been suggested to plug this year’s budget.

West Dunbartonshire Council officers have outlined a list of potential cuts, worth £2.75million, for councillors to choose from to help fill an estimated £2.88m gap.

However, the local authority says the figure could still change before the UK and Scottish Governments finalise their budgets next month.

Community Party spokesperson Louise Robertson said: “If WDCP were the administration we would set a needs-based budget based on the needs of our communities and demand the Tory Government in Westminster fund the gap between what we are allowed to spend and what we need to deliver public services and retain jobs.”
