West Dunbartonshire communities urged to give monetary donations to CHAS this Christmas

Kind-hearted people from across Balloch, the Vale and Dumbarton are being asked to give monetary donations rather than gifts to Robin House this year.

Bosses at the Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) facility say they are overwhelmed by the generosity of local communities every year at Christmas.

But due to current restrictions, it is impossible for them to accept the level of toys and selection boxes they normally take in.

Instead, they are asking for people to donate money or gift vouchers if they can.

Paying it forward: Free coffee for those in need at Dumbarton cafe

Robin House’s clinical nurse manager Nicky Bridges said: “Every Christmas, the local community are so generous and we receive bags full of lovely Christmas presents and chocolates for all the children and families we support during the festive period.

“Sadly this year because of the pandemic, all Christmas gifts donated to the hospice would need to be quarantined for 72 hours before being given to any families to make sure there is no trace of the virus on them.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have the space in the hospice to quarantine large quantities of gifts and due to social distancing restrictions, we’ve had to cancel our Christmas parties and celebrations where gifts would usually be handed out to families.”
