West Derby stolen car found abandoned two miles away after police chase

A car was found abandoned two miles away from where it was stolen after a police chase through Liverpool last night.

One witness said he saw the car being chased at "speed" by several police vehicles around 11pm on Tuesday.

Police today confirmed they were involved in a "short pursuit" after responding to reports that a Hyundai i30 had been stolen from a property in West Derby.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said the car was found abandoned two miles away in Tuebrook and has since been returned to its owner.

The spokesperson told the ECHO: "We had reports of a car being stolen from outside a property in Eaton Road, West Derby, at 10.55pm last night.

"The car was found abandoned a short time later on Portrush Street and recovered by the owner."

The hunt for the car thief is continuing.

One witness said: "Just seen a car chase at very high speed up Melwood Drive in West Derby then north up Queens Drive. Lots of police vehicles in pursuit."

Merseyside Police confirmed there "was a short pursuit" and that enquiries are ongoing.
