West Bromwich Albion boss backs plans that Bristol City and Leeds United fans will love

Slaven Bilic has backed plans to complete the season.

The West Bromwich Albion boss says that resuming the season when possible be the fairest thing to do, rather than ignoring the fact three-quaters of the campaign had already been played before the coronavirus shutdown.

His views are a boost to clubs challenging for a play-off spot, such as Bristol City, who were just one place outside the top six when the season was suspended.

A resumption of the season would give the Robins the opportunity to compete for a play-off spot.

Other clubs that have had a good season, such as Leeds United, who currently sit top of the table, could well be worried that all of their hard work had been in vain and that players may well depart for the Premier League should they not be promoted with the Whites.

Bilic also argued that, if the campaign takes too long to resume, then the world will have bigger issues to worry about than football.

He said: "Listen, we don’t have any problems.

"We might think we do but then we see what those guys on the front line are facing every day and we know we don’t have any problems.

"We should try to do everything to finish it, even if it drags on until September. In Germany and Italy, they are planning on starting training at the beginning of May. It’s getting better in most countries, thank God.

"If you are talking about October and November, I don’t know because I am not an economist.

"If it is going to be impossible to play football before October or November that means the situation with the virus is not good.

"Then I think the whole world would have much more important things to care about than football.

"That would mean the economy has stopped for half of the year and then who would care about football.

"But I think that is it is very fair and right and legal for it to finish. You can’t ignore that we have played three-quarters of the season. You can’t void it.

"If there is any possible scenario in which the season can be played it should be finished."
