West Bromwich Albion beat Bristol City to signing of teenage striker

Bristol City's links throughout the local non-league scene remain excellent and the Robins have consistently shown an appetite to bring in talent from lower leagues.

Bath City's Player of the Season Robbie Cundy became City's first summer signing when he joined on a two-year contract in May while in April they brought in 18-year-old striker Louis Britton from Mangotsfield United .

However, the Robins have been denied a hat-trick of promising non-league additions after Cirencester Town striker Owen Windsor elected to sign for Championship rivals West Brom after City had also made him an offer.

Hartpury College scholar Windsor, who turns 18 in September, scored six goals in seven Southern League Division One South starts for Cirencester in the Southern League Division One South as they reached the play-off semi-finals.

Hartpury's football academy manager Paul Tassell told Gloucestershire Live: "Owen has a lot of potential and if he works hard, he has great ability to create and score goals and was an important part of our U18s National Cup winning team.

"He came to us turning down scholarships at other professional clubs due to the full-time football here combined with outstanding education.

"We hope he is another one we can add to the 30+ who have signed professionally from our programmes."

The former Swindon Town and Southampton youth-team player, who can play wide or through the middle, had also been tracked by Premier League Chelsea, while League Two Forest Green Rovers made an unsuccessful attempt to sign him.
