Feb 24 (Reuters) - A dreadful week for West Bromwich Albion ended with them being booed off at the Hawthorns after a 2-1 home defeat by Hudderfield Town left them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.
Second-half goals by Rajiv van la Parra and Steve Mounie proved decisive as Huddersfield gave themselves a survival boost and turned up the pressure on West Brom boss Alan Pardew.
After four West Brom players were questioned by Spanish police after the alleged theft of a taxi while on a training camp in Barcelona last week, Pardew admitted his side needed a response on the pitch.
Instead they offered little evidence to suggest they can avoid being relegated, despite a late rally sparked by Craig Dawson's thumping header.
They have now lost four league matches in a row and are seven points adrift of safety having managed three victories all season.
"I think it is three wins in 37 games. It is a problem, we just have to find a way to win a game, however ugly it is. It was certainly ugly today," Pardew said.
Van la Parra was allowed far too much time and space to fire Huddersfield ahead in the 48th minute as West Brom's defence melted away. When Mounie doubled Hudderfield's lead, many home fans decided they had seen enough.
West Brom finally stirred into life when Dawson powered in a header from Chris Brunt's corner. Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Loessl then made a great save to keep out Brunt's free kick late on.
Huddersfield's second successive league victory eased them up to 14th spot with 30 points, three above the relegation zone.
"We said this before, it wasn't a six-pointer but it was a massive game for us and the players showed everything -- fighting spirit and attitude," Hudderfield boss David Wagner said.
"We scored two wonderful goals and kept them as far as possible from our goal."
