West Brom suffer major injury blow in Leeds United promotion race

Leeds United's promotion rivals West Brom have suffered a major blow in their fight for a spot in the Premier League next season, sustained in Monday night's clash with Stoke City.

The Baggies welcomed the Championship strugglers to the Hawthorns and would have been delighted to have had Grady Diangana back in the starting line-up.

It was his first start since going off against Birmingham five league games ago, which was also the last time West Brom won in the league - but things didn't go to plan.

Less than two minutes into the clash, Diangana was forced off with what appeared to be a muscle injury in his back - and he could now be sidelined for an extended period.

Diangana, on loan from West Ham, has been a key-part of Slaven Bilic's side this season, having scored five goals and contributed five assists in his 21 Championship appearances.

His importance to the Baggies is further demonstrated by the fact that West Brom failed to win their last four matches without their Premier League loanee, which will raise concerns ahead of the coming weeks.

However, he is ineligible to feature in this weekend's FA Cup clash with parent side West Ham and Bilic would have been planning without the midfielder for that match anyway.
