West Brom’s Ben Foster puts faith in Boaz Myhill after season-ending injury

Ben Foster, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, has moved to allay West Brom’s relegation fears by expressing total confidence in the Baggies’ stand-in goalkeepers.

Foster picked up a knee injury in West Brom’s 1-0 win over Stoke earlier this month and subsequent scans have revealed damaged cartilage which will keep the 31-year-old sidelined for six months.

In his absence, Boaz Myhill got the nod against Manchester City in West Brom’s most recent Premier League outing – a 3-0 defeat at the Etihad – which leaves Tony Pulis’s side eight points above the relegation zone in 14th spot.

It was only Myhill’s third Premier League appearance of the season while the 20-year-old Jack Rose will now provide cover from the bench but Foster believes he has left the West Brom No1 shirt in safe hands.

“Boaz showed at Manchester City that you know what you’ll get. He’s an amazing keeper – there are no worries on that front,” Foster, who has missed out on England’s double header against Lithuania and Italy as a result of his injury, told the club website. “Some clubs would be worried about losing their first choice but Boaz steps up every time. He’s getting better and I know the lads and the gaffer trust him totally.

“I’ve known him [Jack] pretty much since I joined and he’s a fantastic prospect, he’s so quick and sharp. Some of the saves he makes in training are brilliant. He’s quick, agile and has great feet. You see the lads actually stopping to applaud him at times. He’s got a big future.”
