West Brom's Alfredo Morelos transfer bid booted out as Rangers hold firm after 11th hour approach

Rangers have knocked back a £10million plus approach from West Bromwich Albion for Alfredo Morelos.

The Baggies had identified the Colombian international as one of their top targets and were hoping to get a deal before Thursday’s 5pm deadline.

That now looks unlikely as West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has moved on to other options – although he hasn’t closed the door until he gets another striker in.

Midlands sources close to West Bromwich Albion have confirmed that the Championship club’s lucrative deal was put to Rangers on Wednesday, but were informed by the Ibrox hierarchy that it was well short of what they are value him at.

There were further add ons if West Brom won promotion back to the Premier League but it wasn’t enough to coax Rangers to the table.

Rangers have remained dogged in their stance that they value last season’s Premiership top scorer at the same level as Celtic got when they sold Moussa Dembele to Lyon for £20 million.

The Hawthorns outfit were prepared to push the boat out for the 23-year-old but were still well short of that figure.

Rangers have rewarded Morelos with a new contract and Steven Gerrard has admitted he would only sell if the deal is right for the club.

Morelos could still leave to a major league in Europe before the end of the month but it would need to be at a vastly improved level.

Rangers signed him for a bargain basement £1m from HJK Helsinki in 2017.

There also remains interest in Morelos in China but he is reluctant to go there as he knows it will do his international ambitions very little good.

Hebei Fortune were quoted as having an interest but Record Sport understands it is another Chinese Super League club who were keen.
